NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Little Big Town singer Phillip Sweet says “Girl Crush” is alluring and controversial — which is why he thinks the song helped the group earn five nominations for the 49th annual Country Music Association Awards. Sweet says the song manages to paint “a picture with the emotion of the music.” Girl Crush helped the four-part vocal group to score nods that include album of the year, musical event of the year, music video of the year and single of the year. The five CMA nods mark the most the band has ever received in a year.
